About Us
John Paul I is one of the most active councils in the state of Virginia. We are a Catholic, family, fraternal, service organization with over 350 members serving the Dale City, VA community since 1978.We support Holy Family Catholic Church. Some examples are:
- conducting various construction projects, including an outdoor stage, a walkway to the former rectory, Mary’s garden, safety railings, and painting handicapped parking spaces
- conducting projects to help the needy, including Thanksgiving turkey dinners, food and clothing drives, Lenten soup suppers, hosting homeless people for a week, and transporting an elderly parishioner to Mass each week
- providing honor guards and ushers for confirmations, Christmas midnight masses, Holy Thursday liturgies, Easter vigils, parish festivals, and May processions
- buying a Pilgrim Virgin statue, crucifixes for classrooms, altar servers robes, and kitchen utensils for the Activities Center
- providing personnel for annual parish festivals, periodic grounds cleanups and Keep Christ in Christmas campaigns.
We support the Dale City. VA community Our activities include:
- participating in the Adopt-A-Highway program
- sponsoring an annual Day of Remembrance for citizens who have died in automobile accidents involving alcohol or drugs
- conducting blood drives
- donating teddy bears to children in Potomac Hospital and distraught children encountered by the police
- performing home repairs for the needy
- delivering leftover vegetables from the farmers market to needy senior citizens
- supporting the pro life movement by providing and stalling the assistance van at the annual March for Life and acting as marshals, financially supporting Birthright, AAA Women for Choice, the Northern Virginia Training Center, Gabriel Homes and Muriel Humphrey School, and collecting over $120, 000 for KOVAR
- sponsoring drug abuse and organ donor programs
- sponsoring and participating in the 4th of July, Benita Fitzgerald, Loyalty Day and Christmas parades
- recognizing a community citizen of the year.
We support the youth of our community by
- sponsoring Columbian Squires and Squire Roses Circles, teams in basketball, baseball, swimming, and soccer, and first aid and babysitting courses
- conducting annual free throw contests, fishing tournaments and parties at Christmas, Halloween and Easter
- financing graduation parties for 5 area highschools
- providing school supplies for children of Bosnia- Herzegovina and Jamaica
- supporting Special Olympics
- providing athletic equipment to Aquinas School and the Holy Family youth group
- recognizing an outstanding young man and young woman of the year.
We provide recognized leadership in our organization and the community as demonstrated by:
- winning 115 awards from the State and Supreme Councils, including a second place International Service Program Award for community service
- donating thousands of dollars to a variety of organizations and individuals
- serving in various capacities at the district and state levels
- having seven members achieve the State Knight of the Year award
- Having four families achieve the State Family of the Year award.
